Letter J — Jellyfish.

A purple jellyfish with long wavy arms floats in for the letter J. J is a jumping, jiggly letter, and the jellyfish is the perfect mascot.

THE CARD — DRAW RIGHT ON IT

Trace J j, circle the jellyfish.

This is J’s own card from the class. Pick a crayon, then trace the big letter and the little letter right on the card with your finger, a stylus or the mouse — and circle jellyfish. Press Save my work when you are proud: your drawing stays here for next time.

THE LETTER SOUND

What does J say?

Letter and picture association card: J j with a purple jellyfish with long wavy arms
ASSOCIATION CARDJ j — Jellyfish

“j — juh, like jellyfish”

J says juh, like the start of jellyfish and jump. Say it quickly — juh — and then jump! The movement teaches the sound better than any flashcard.

TAKE IT OFF SCREEN

Jellyfish float.

Two minutes is plenty. Follow your child’s lead and stop while it is still fun — that is the whole method.

  1. 01

Let your arms dangle like jellyfish arms and wobble around the room: juh, juh, jellyfish.

  2. 02

Play a freeze game — when the music stops (or you stop humming), freeze like a still jellyfish.

  3. 03

Finish with three small jumps: juh, juh, jump!
