Crossing Guard Worksheet for Ages 4–5
A community-helpers worksheet for ages 4–5: trace the words CROSSING GUARD, match the guard to the stop sign, vest and crosswalk, circle the safe crossing rules, count the stop signs and draw yourself crossing safely — on screen or on paper.
The full sheet, exactly as the artist drew it.

The five steps on the sheet.
- 1
Trace
Trace the dotted words CROSSING GUARD — two words, one letter at a time.
- 2
Match
Draw a line from the crossing guard to the stop sign, the vest and the crosswalk.
- 3
Circle
Four rules sit in the grid, each written in words — circle every SAFE way to cross the street. One of the four is a big mistake!
- 4
Count
Count the stop signs, then write the number in the box.
- 5
Draw
Draw yourself crossing safely in the big box — crosswalk stripes, looking eyes, and a grown-up’s hand.
Before you start, have the words ready: A crossing guard stops traffic so children can cross: the stop sign tells cars to wait, the bright vest makes the guard easy to see, and the crosswalk is the one place feet belong on the road. The rules: look left, right, then left again; raise your hand and wait; use the crosswalk — never run across.
What this worksheet teaches.
What a crossing guard does at the corner, the four rules of a safe street crossing, and which rules are safe and which are not — plus how to write the words CROSSING GUARD.
Street crossing is the highest-stakes skill on the whole neighborhood walk, and rehearsal is what makes it stick. Sorting safe from unsafe rules lets your child explain the WHY back to you — a far stronger memory than a rule recited once.

Tips, questions and practice.
Say before you start: "This is a crossing guard — the helper who keeps the corner safe. Trace the two words, then connect the stop sign, the vest and the crosswalk. Now read the four rules together: which ones are safe? Count the stop signs, and then draw YOU crossing — stripes, eyes left and right, hand in hand."
Questions to ask: "What does the stop sign tell the cars?" "Which three rules are safe?" "Why do we look left, right, then left again?" "Who holds your hand at the crossing — and when may you cross alone?"
Parent tips: Walk to a real crossing this week and act out all four rules — look left, right, then left again, hand raised at the curb, crosswalk only, walking feet. Practised feet are safe feet, and the guard’s wave is a friend’s wave.
Home practice: On every walk this week, let your child be the crossing captain: stop at the curb, look left-right-left, hold hands, walk. Ten real crossings beat ten worksheets — and you will both know the rules by heart.
